Howard Stringer, Sony CEO:

“We can’t continue selling TV sets in this manner,” he tells the Wall Street Journal, “every TV set we make loses money.”

With all due respect to Stringer, television sets are not Sony’s problem. Television sets are symptomatic of a deeper problem Sony has: its brand.

In the 80′s, the Sony brand name was synonymous with quality electronics at a slightly higher brand cost. Now, with the exception of the Playstation Media/Gaming Console, I don’t feel confident purchasing a Sony anything.

Concerning changing course: check out IBM.
